Ho ho ho! Meeeerrrrrrryyyyy Christmas / Yule / Dec 25th / other!
First -- I adore you all. Seriously. I do. =)

Now.

Update:

Marley still doing well. (neighbors now know we have her; their official reason for not getting her out of shelter-- they are having money problems. & they told a mutual friend--who mentioned in relation to the money problems that they are indeed saying this but have bought two new cars recently-- that if she gets out she better not come back over there or they will shoot her)

Zoe not doing any worse.

Everyone else doing alright.

Financial situation still beyond frightening, verging on paralytically terrifying.

You should all go out and buy something by Gram Rabbit as an after-Christmas gift for someone (assuming your money troubles are more like my neighbors than mine, that is); they will thank you for it.

US election 2008 thoughts --

Did Kucinich actually say he might make Ron Paul his running mate if he got the democratic nomination? I hope not but the source seemed credible. If he did, no longer any chance of me supporting him even w/a vote to get his agenda paid attention to. It's like he's a little kid w/good ideas but very little grasp on reality.

Hilary definitely is responsible for this -- http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2007/12/clinton-would-c.html
-- one of many things the wrongheadedness of which makes me wonder about her.

Problems w/all other candidates have been noted often, so I guess it's Dodd for now; he's not perfect, but I'm liking him better than anyone else at this point. This is probably because I know/remember less about him; I'm waiting for someone to tell me he's a huge fan of building that moronic fence along the border, or something.

Dodd refuses to eat the black jelly beans at Easter. Very wasteful!

::c & p'd from my reply to jblaque, who helpfully pointed me to a full list of policy positions, votes, etc::

Oh damn, he *is* for the stupid wall. And he voted for the Iraq war, which is why I quit looking at him the first time around (I guess I was thinking "we have 3 front runner who I already think lack political courage, why do I want to see that in a longshot?").

Yet, he nonetheless is still my front runner at the moment, which says something. I'm not sure what. Okay, demonstrating some political courage on an important issue and actually *accomplishing something* by stopping something bad counts.

=)

Kucinich is the only left wing Democrat left.

can't really argue w/that, but he must be at least moderately capable of running things and recognizing, well, things. =)

(sorry, in too much hurry to be articulate, merry christmas!)

He managed quite well as mayor of Cleveland. the man has integrity and bravery, two traits no other candidate can claim.

merry christmas :}

I don't dislike Kucinich. He was for a while my first choice. His domestic policy positions probably (make that, "almost certainly") match more closely to mine than anyone else who is running, and his foreign policy positions, while they don't impress me as much, are more palatable than any of the Republicans.

And if by some wild shot he wins the nomination, I'll not only vote for him (as I will any of the dems, possibly, much as Obama's pro-nuclear power stance is an automatic disqualifier, I just can't see voting 3rd party for president, whatever I do w/Congress), but I'll be excited about doing so.

At the same time, I'll also be scared shitless if he wins the nomination, because he simply doesn't impress me much, or at all, as a speaker, or in interviews. I worry that he'll get destroyed by the press in the general election if they actually start to pay attention to him, and if he wins I worry that he will have serious trouble navigating DC; and I worry that an ineffectual candidate/president w/good ideas who can't implement them will be almost worse than not having the candidate w/good ideas at all.

His possible selection of Paul as a running mate (still haven't found anyone to say yay or nay to the truth of that) strikes me as being tone deaf; it's the kind of perfectly understandable idea someone would have "yeah, me and the other straight talking long shot outcast guy! We'll join forces and kick butt on the establishment" but then I'd expect them to look at their fellow longshot and see some important differences (rabidly anti-choice and very homophobic fundie, quite probably racist, would be as bad for the environment as the bush administration) that would disqualify the dude as a running mate, alienating far more people than he'd pick up for you, and that he didn't do this contributes to my whole "eh, not so sure about this guy" thing.

Tho yes, he did alright as mayor of cleveland, and he's gutsy and has integrity. With you on all that. =)

Hope your holiday season is going well!

He's actually a very good speaker, in my opinion. I think he's a very powerful man on the stage.

Ron Paul is not a good choice. everyone seems to be placing him up on a pedestal; this guy does not support seperation of church and state. Thats all I need to know that I would not be happy with him in power, now or ever.
